I am interested in cross-cultural experiences of disablement. I believe in research that is based on direct participation and observation of a particular group, and deals with social status based on ethnic, class, gender, and dis/ability differences. I try to practice engaged scholarship, and admire my colleagues who are dedicated to making their research relevant, applicable, and understandable.

In 2008, I conducted ethnographic fieldwork in Cuenca, Ecuador for my dissertation in cultural anthropology.

In 2006-2008, I worked on a project to evaluate the accessibility for disabled people at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Funded by a NASA Fellowship, the project employed qualitative and geospatial methods to understand accessibility and Universal Design.
My other research interests include engaged/applied anthropology, medical anthropology, community development, participatory GIS, and my regional interest is Latin America.
